INFRARED HEAT BENEFITS AT U YOGA:

While most heated yoga studios use forced air to heat their rooms, UYoga uses infrared heat, which provides a therapeutic, deep, penetrating, detoxifying form of heat which expels toxins, heavy metals, and pollutants from the body, providing significant benefits.

Infrared heat promotes a stronger immune system, better cardiovascular health, and speeds the healing process in soft tissue injuries such as tears, pulls, and sprains. As a beauty treatment, the penetrating heat of far infrared heat therapy works wonders by reducing the appearance of crow’s feet, fine lines, and wrinkles. In addition to helping heal scars, wounds, and cuts, it also helps smooth skin’s texture, lessons coarseness, and reduces pore size.

Infrared heat therapy is a natural way to aid aches and pains from arthritis, fibromyalgia and other health-related disorders. Providing relief to people suffering from chronic injury, illness or fatigue, far infrared heat is often the first step in helping them get their lift back.

INFRARED HEATED YOGA CLASS BENEFITS

  1. Increased Flexibility: The heat will allow you to safely reach new levels of personal flexibility in postures, which is therapeutic for your body.
  2. Breath: With the added element of the heat, you will be forced to find your breath in order to keep up! If there is no breathing, there is no yoga. It won’t take long before you learn to breathe in a full and controlled manner.
  3. Cardio: Your heart can work the same way doing yoga postures in a heated room as it does when running a mile, and you never even leave your mat. Particularly in postures when you are balancing and contracting your muscles at the same time. A 90-minute class can burn up to 1,000 calories. The way you stretch and compress your internal organs and glands also stimulates metabolism so you are burning calories more quickly outside the room as well.
  4. Detox: The heated room helps you to stretch more and get your cardio, but it also helps you sweat. The postures themselves are detoxifying for your muscles, organs, and glands and sweating promotes health.
  5. Healing: The primary purpose of this yoga is therapy. With a regular practice, these postures can help to heal old injuries and also prevent them in the future. This is especially true for back pain. Don’t skip the postures that are slightly uncomfortable. *Hot Yoga is also known to reduce symptoms of conditions and illnesses including diabetes, asthma, high blood pressure, depression, arthritis, and obesity.
  6. Longevity: “You’re only as old as your spine is flexible.” ~Joseph Pilates

*Get a doctor’s OK before practicing hot yoga if you have diabetes, cardiovascular or respiratory disease, or a history of heat-related illness.

INFRARED HEATED YOGA CLASS TIPS

  1. Register online as space is limited!
  2. Bring a towel! You are going to sweat, A LOT. Either a beach towel to lay over your mat, or if practicing hot yoga regularly invest in a skidless, yoga towel (YogiToes Towels available in our boutique). Many people also like to bring a hand towel to wipe their brow during breaks between flows.
  3. Hydration is Vitally Important! Drink lots of water in the hours before class, bring a bottled water into class, then drink tons of water again after class. Coconut water is great for post hot yoga to replenish your body with electrolytes.
  4. Honor your body. Come down and rest in child’s pose or Savasana if you lose your breath, and especially if you are feeling dizzy or sick.
  5. Wear the right clothes. What you need is form-fitting clothing that won’t interfere with movement. Leggings and tight shorts are both good options. Some like to go with longer leggings as it makes the legs easier to grab onto during certain poses while you’re pouring sweat, but some prefer to wear as little as possible to keep cool. Guys, feel free to do the usual and rock your board shorts!
  6. Know your yoga etiquette: Don’t wear perfume; this can be a distraction to the class, as the heat can really intensify the smell. Try not to leave and re-enter the room. Doing so is not only distracting for everyone else, but it won’t help you adjust to the heat and get the full benefits of the practice. Remember to use the restroom BEFORE class or wait until after.
  7. Avoid heavy meals 2-3 hours before class. A light snack before class can be beneficial. Fruit, particularly those that have a high water content such as watermelon, or sodium content like bananas are great to eat before class. Dried fruit is good, too (figs, raisins, mangos, etc.). Seeds and nuts are also great.
