Particularly in postures when you are balancing and contracting your muscles at the same time. A 90-minute class can burn up to 1,000 calories. INFRARED HEATED YOGA CLASS TIPS
- Register online as space is limited!
- Bring a towel! You are going to sweat, A LOT. Either a beach towel to lay over your mat, or if practicing hot yoga regularly invest in a skidless, yoga towel (YogiToes Towels available in our boutique). Many people also like to bring a hand towel to wipe their brow during breaks between flows.
- Hydration is Vitally Important! Drink lots of water in the hours before class, bring a bottled water into class, then drink tons of water again after class. Coconut water is great for post hot yoga to replenish your body with electrolytes.
- Honor your body. Come down and rest in child’s pose or Savasana if you lose your breath, and especially if you are feeling dizzy or sick.
- Wear the right clothes. What you need is form-fitting clothing that won’t interfere with movement. Leggings and tight shorts are both good options. Some like to go with longer leggings as it makes the legs easier to grab onto during certain poses while you’re pouring sweat, but some prefer to wear as little as possible to keep cool. Guys, feel free to do the usual and rock your board shorts!
- Know your yoga etiquette: Don’t wear perfume; this can be a distraction to the class, as the heat can really intensify the smell. Try not to leave and re-enter the room. Doing so is not only distracting for everyone else, but it won’t help you adjust to the heat and get the full benefits of the practice. Remember to use the restroom BEFORE class or wait until after.
- Avoid heavy meals 2-3 hours before class. A light snack before class can be beneficial. Fruit, particularly those that have a high water content such as watermelon, or sodium content like bananas are great to eat before class. Dried fruit is good, too (figs, raisins, mangos, etc.). Seeds and nuts are also great.
